這首歌原本叫作 “In other words” ，1954年巴特·霍華德（Bart Howard）作。
巴特·霍華德是美國著名的作詞家、作曲家、鋼琴家。In other words原本是首華爾茲舞曲，也是他最有名的一首作品。最初這首歌由他當時工作的酒店的駐店歌手Felicia Sanders演唱。隨後一位出版商建議將其改名爲Take Me to the Moon，巴特·霍華德采納了他的意見，並最後將這首歌定名爲我們今天看到的Fly Me to the Moon，然後由佩姬·李(Peggy Lee)1960年演唱的版本成名。所以我們在很多地方也可以看到這首歌被寫成Fly Me to the Moon(In Other Words)。1962年由Joe Hannel 改編而變得家喻戶曉，Patty Page的演唱又將此曲提升至經典之作的境界。這首歌曾被多麗絲·黛、朱迪·賈蘭等好萊塢女星演唱，而弗蘭克·辛納塔(Frank Sinatra)的翻唱更是讓這首歌的名聲達到了一個無法形容的地步。
美國宇航局曾把弗蘭克·辛納塔演唱的這首歌的唱片，通過阿波羅飛船送上月球，使得Fly Me to the Moon成爲第一首在月球上播放的人類歌曲。在secondhandsongs.com裏，我們可以大緻看到這個歌的一個不完全翻唱列表。寫了這首歌以後，基本上巴特·霍華德老爺子也就再沒有什麽事情好做了，這首歌給他帶來了巨大的收入，按照AMG的說法就是他順利進入了半退休的狀態。並且最後在 1999年還被列入了音樂創作名人堂。90年代的時候老爺子還說，如果當時他沒有決定把歌名改爲Fly me to the moon，他不知道現在會過著什麽樣的生活。
巴特·霍華德於2004年2月21日死於中風，享年83歲。他的同性愛人Thomas Fowler陪伴他58年，一直到他生命完結的那一刻！
動畫大片《帶我去月球》的片頭、好萊塢影片《太空牛仔》的片尾以及庵野秀明監制的動畫《新世紀福音戰士》(簡稱EVA)的片尾曲均是使用這首曲子。（網絡整理）
