This Nugget prepares you for taking the Project+ certification exam. After providing an overview of the Project+ exam, this Nugget focused on the tips and hints to successfully taking the exam. The format of the exam is reviewed as well as the types and styles of questions given in the exam. 00:48:32
3
Pre-Project Setup
This Nugget, the first of 2 covering the first segment of the Project + exam objectives, identifies the specific characteristics of a project as it relates to preparing for the exam. It also reviews topics such as project identification and justification ensuring that only appropriate projects are approved for development. 00:34:29
4
Project Planning
This Nugget completes the first segment of the Project + exam and focus on developing the project charter, the key foundational document produced in Initiating. The Project Charter is used to define the high level definition of the project and is presented to management for formal approval to proceed to work on the project. Completing the Pre-Project Setup/Initiating portion of the exam objectives, this Nugget reviews the Project Delivery Life Cycle and explores the impact that different organizational structures have on project delivery. 00:38:51
5
Prepare Scope Statement
This Nugget is the first of 11 that covers the second segment of the Project + Exam – Project Planning. The Project Scope Statement expands on the Project Charter and includes more detail to define the Scope Box, or Scope Statement for the project. The Project Scope Statement clearly and unambiguously defines the end state for successful completion of the project. The Nugget explores the contents of the Scope Statement and provides several tips and hints for creating a high quality Project Scope Statement. 00:36:44
6
Create WBS and WBS Dictionary
This Nugget is the second of 11 that covers the second segment of the Project+ Exam – Project Planning. Creating the WBS is a natural and logical successor to Preparing the Scope Statement. The WBS identifies all the work (and only the work) required to satisfy the Scope Statement, i.e. complete the Deliverables identified in the Scope Statement. The WBS is created by successive decomposition of the Deliverables into Sub-Deliverables into Working Document and finally into Work Packages. The WBS decomposition stops when the work packages are assignable to a single individual/skill and are estimable and manageable. This Nugget will explore the technique for doing this Work Package decomposition and will present guidelines to evaluate when the assignable, estimable and manageable criteria are met. 00:39:52
7
Define Change Management Process
This Nugget is the third of 11 that covers the second segment of the Project+ Exam – Project Planning. This Nugget describes the Change Management process which must be planned into the project to ensure that the business is aware of and prepared for the inevitable changes that will be dealt with during the project. The Change Management Process consists of Integrated Change Management ensuring that all changes consider the impact to scope, time, cost, quality, human resources, quality, procurement and risk are considered in an integrated approach and that the changes are well communicated to all project stakeholders. Sample Change Request Forms and Change Request logs are reviewed to demonstrate how change management can be applied. Finally, principles are reviewed to help manage and eliminate a significant project challenge called “Scope Creep”. 00:35:44
8
Develop Project Schedule and Resources and Roles
Define the Project Schedule and Resources and Roles This Nugget is the fourth that covered the second segment of the Project+ Exam – Project Planning. This Nugget is focused on developing the Project Schedule. This Nugget starts with the complete WBS created in Nugget 6 and adds task estimates, resource assignments and dependencies to the WBS providing all the information required to develop the Project Schedule. The Project Schedule is used to identify key project milestones and provides information necessary to integrate the project into the overall organizational plans. This Nugget reviews the techniques for developing project estimates at the task level. With the estimates developed, appropriate named resources, with the skills, knowledge and availability are assigned to each task. The last step before the project is ready to be scheduled is adding mandatory dependencies which identify the prerequisite/successor relationships between the project tasks. 00:53:02
9
PERT/GANTT/CPM and Schedule Compression
This Nugget is the fourth that covered the second segment of the Project+ Exam – Project Planning. This Nugget is focused on several principles used in the development of the project schedule. A significant component of this Nugget is focused on using the Critical Chain Method using the Precedence Diagramming Method to calculate the project’s Critical Path. With the Critical Path tasks identified, the Nugget then explores 2 techniques for schedule compression: Fast Tracking and Crashing. As well this Nugget explores 2 other scheduling techniques called the Gantt Chart and the PERT method. 00:56:11
10

This Nuggets addresses defining the WHO we are going to communication to, WHAT we’re going to communicate, WHEN we’re going to communicate and finally HOW, or what form, we’re going to communicate project information to all project stakeholders. The key to a project Communication Management Plan is that it defines in advance the who, what, when and how for communications allowing for early validation of the communication process, and with that in hand, allows for the development of an information gathering and management process that facilitates ease of communication. 00:43:09
11

The Risk Management plan provides a proactive plan to eliminate or minimize the impacts that future unknown events (risks) will have on a project. The Risk Management Plan focuses on Identifying, Analyzing, Planning and during project delivery Controlling all likely project risk events. Risk Management planning starts with brain storming to identify all possible risks to the project’s successful delivery. This long list of risks is then analyzed to determine the probability and impact to rank the risks identifying the most critical impacts to the project delivery. Risk planning these determines an avoidance, mitigation, transference or acceptance strategy. The results of the risk planning activities are documented in the Risk Management Plan and presented as part of overall project approval. 00:40:29
12
Quality Management Plan
This Nugget is the eighth that covers the second segment of the Project+ Exam – Project Planning. This Nugget is focused defining the Quality processes to be followed by the project. Establishing an appropriate quality program in project planning is critical to ensure that the appropriate quality processes are built into the program. The Quality Management plan starts with a definition of the quality expectation so of the project, identifying whether this is a mission critical project with zero tolerance for quality issues or whether the project is an “average” business project with some ability to accept quality issues in non-core areas. With the Quality expectation defined, the next step is to identify the appropriate quality processes such as reviews, walk thrus, inspections and testing are built into the project delivery approach. This Nugget reviews the steps associated with Procurement Planning, Purchase Planning, Vendor Selection, Contract Administration and Contract Closeout. The first step of Procurement Planning is determining if in fact your project has a purchasing requirement. With the decision made that procurement is needed, the next step is determining the most appropriate way (commodity purchase, preferred supplier, RFI, RFQ, RFP, etc) to purchase the components required by the project. The next step is contacting the appropriate vendors and then selecting the most appropriate vendor in a fair, unbiased and defendable pre-defined process. This Nugget closes with a brief discussion on some special characteristics and requirements for effective project management of a distributed project team, whether they are distributed across a city, region, country or world. 00:37:27
25
Project Closure
This Nugget covers the final segment of the Project+ Exam – Project Closure. This Nugget focuses on the work required to properly close a project. Project Closing is much more than just saying we’re done and perhaps having a party. Full and proper closing includes obtaining formal acceptance of the project, ensuring the project handover to operations and production support is complete, conducting a project review to harvest re-usable artifacts, documenting lessons learned, releasing project resources and closing any outstanding vendor contracts. The results of these project closing activities should be documented in the project closure document which should be stored in a project closure library to ensure that others in your organization can benefit from the work completed by and the lessons learned on your project. 00:33:42
