聖多瑪斯(Thomas Aquinas, Saint ,1225?-1274)，道明會哲學家與神學家，封為「天使博士」。他生於Aquino，是義大利南方的一個城市，他的名字是依這個城名取的。《神學大全》是他最偉大的著作，他代表著「士林哲學」的顛峰。「士林哲學」融合的哲學與神學，興盛於1100-1500年之間，企圖在信仰與理性之間，亞理斯多德的作品與聖經之間加以調和。
《神學大全》寫於1265-1274，原來是寫給初學者的入門指南，所有剛信道的人都可以由此書獲得學習。系統架構是以最清晰的方式來闡明神聖的教義，聖多瑪斯分了幾個部分提出了許多與基督宗教最相關的問題。
第一部分：論及上帝的存在與本性，然後是論及創造、人的本性。
第二部分：論及他對道德與法律之檢證，也提供了他對神學的德性、基本的德性、七大死罪的說明。
第三部分：並未能完成，討論的是關於道成肉身與聖禮。
