After the success that she had with the club friendly It s Like That , Mariah Carey returns with what I consider to be one of her best songs of her career. This song reminisces her classic style, mixed with modern R B at its best. Its also co-produced by Mariah partner in crime and uber producer Jermaine Dupri. Mariah starts off in a slick smooth manner as she sings I didn t mean it when I said I didn t love you so telling her past lover that she Never should have let you go . The harmonious and smooth vocals continue in pre-chorus 1 as she swiftly flows through the verse. Keeping it restrained she doesn t fail on the chorus as she sings When you left I lost a part of me whilst in the background she ad-libs come back in an echo haunting chant. The second verse is a prime example of how creative she is when writing a song. This verse is all about how she be listening to the radio when a couple of songs doesn t help her situation as they both remind her that she is alone and still thinking about her ex. Cleverly she quotes the songs lyrics If you Think Your Lonely Now shortly followed by I only think of you . Pre-chorus 2, and she s now all in hysterics Throwing things, crying tryin to figure out where the hell I went wrong . All this, she then leads onto the second chorus which is identical to the first in the restrained fashion. In a big climatic way, She then belts out the outro in full vocals, neatly rouonding the track off with a long high note fading to the end.
