REAPER是一個多軌音頻/MIDI音序器，但由於其便宜的價格，出色的性能，完整的功能，嬌小的身材，立刻被廣大平民音樂人所推崇。REAPTER是Rapid Environment for Audio Prototyping and Efficient Recording的縮寫，也就是音頻原型與高性能錄音的快速環境。
據說REAPER的核心開發人員是從前Winamp公司跳槽出來的，可見水平還是很有保證的。

REAPER是一款工作站級別的專業音樂制作軟件，包含多軌錄音、音頻混縮、MIDI編輯與母帶處理等多項功能。軟件采用64位音頻引擎，支持目前流行的各類DX、VST音頻插件與軟音源，並自帶多個品質出色的音頻效果器。

正常運行REAPER，對計算機軟硬件的要求很低。但是為了最大限度的發揮其功能，並提高工作效率，我們推薦采用如下配置：多核處理器，Windows 2000/XP/Vista，1G內存，至少1G的空閒磁盤空間，1280x1024顯示分辨率，24位真彩色，支持ASIO音頻驅動的專業音頻卡或音頻 接口。

REAPER 4
REAPER updates are evolutionary, not revolutionary. REAPER 4 is not a radically new experience from REAPER 3, but adds a number of useful new features, ease of use improvements, and even more of that legendary REAPER customizability.
Tweak, correct, and mangle audio with pitch envelopes, which can be applied to individual media items.

Create fully automated surround mixes with multichannel track metering and the highly flexible ReaSurround plug-in. Apply rotations, transformations, and diffusions, and even automate the positions of the speakers themselves.
Batch rendering wildcards provide sound designers with unprecedented flexibility when generating sound files in bulk.

Manage project media and FX with the Project Bay, where you can collect, organize, and edit a list of resources that you are using, or might use, for different types of projects.

REAPER upgrades are released whenever we improve or fix something, sometimes as often as every few days.
These point upgrades are free to any REAPER user.

REAPER 4.01 is mostly a bugfix release. Most of the bugs are minor, such as making sure the buttons in the Project Bay are labeled properly depending on what you have selected. A couple are convenience fixes, such as correcting some issues where OS X audio devices may not be reset when starting REAPER, or allowing a custom installation path on Windows x64. Also, the installer compression was improved, so the download is even smaller and updating REAPER is more convenient.

We fixed an issue where when using bridged plug-ins/ReWire and resuming the system from sleep would result in plug-ins being unloaded. v4.01 should prevent any discontinuity in this scenario.
