StarOffice 9基於開源的OpenOffice.org 3.0，首次原生支持蘋果Mac OS X操作系統，提供了新的開始中心和圖標，並集成了Mozilla Tunderbird郵件客戶端，文字處理Writer、電子表格Calc、演示文稿Impress、數據庫Base和圖表制作Draw等各個組件都進行了升級，
　　另外還有大量擴展（Extensions）可以幫助用戶完成各種日常任務，諸如編輯PDF文檔、創建報告、撰寫博客、發表維基文章等等。
　　另外，StarOffice 9還可以讀取微軟Office Open XML格式文檔，支持微軟Access 2007 .accdb文件，並改進了對VBA宏的支持。
　　與OpenOffice.org免費提供不同，StarOffice 9和StarSuite 9要價34.95美元，不過它還是完全開源的。
