1960年的巴黎。一個神出鬼沒的盜賊“烏鴉”鬧得整個歐洲人心惶惶。他入室盜賊的技術令人歎為觀止，從未有失手過，而且當局也對他無可奈何。後來年輕的探員尼古拉斯·勒格蘭抓住了他，並使他受了重傷。
1964年的倫敦。不列顛博物館中的一件傳奇之物、名叫“斯芬克斯之眼”的遠古紅寶石被人偷走。在犯罪現場發現了一只烏鴉的羽毛。是不是有人試圖效仿神偷“烏鴉”？探員勒格蘭開始了調查。
