由Activision旗下的Beenox工作室所開發的Spider-Man：Edge of Time《蜘蛛人：時間裂痕》，玩家在游戲中會同時扮演驚奇蜘蛛人（Amazing Spider-Man）與蜘蛛人2099（Spider-Man 2099）二位角色來進行劇情發展。這一次《蜘蛛人：時間裂痕》的時間背景設定在2099年，Alchemax科學家沃克斯隆（Walker Sloan）為了奪取權力與財富，使用時光傳送器打開了一個能夠傳送至過去的蟲洞，並成功改變過去所發生的一切，包括活在過去時空的驚奇蜘蛛人。正因蟲洞的開啟扭轉了整個歷史，卻也令驚奇蜘蛛人與蜘蛛人2099身處在同一個平行時空上。透過這個獨特的設定並導入了「因果系統」玩法，二位身經百戰的英雄必須在不同的時空中協助彼此，阻止另一場不可預期的災難降臨。

二位超級英雄處在同一個平行世界當中，因此玩家在操控任何一個時間中的蜘蛛人進行任務時，都會影響到另一個時空的世界。就以游戲的任務當作例子來說，當蜘蛛人2099遭遇到巨型機器人的攻擊時，身處在舊時空的驚奇蜘蛛人，就得破壞掉尚未研發完成的機器人原型，這樣就會造成巨型機器人在2099年從未出現而消失。值得一提的是，為了突顯游戲整體的緊張氣氛，大部份擁有因果系統玩法的任務都有時間限制，因此玩家在殺敵與找路的時間拿捏得特別小心。

《蜘蛛人：時間裂痕》采用了許多二個世界實時穿插的場景，也就是說玩家在游戲的過程中操控二位超級英雄，在平行世界的時間概念上進行游戲；而游戲制作團隊為了呈現出更實時的概念設計，除了過完一整個關卡會讀取游戲，其它的戰斗與時間競賽小游戲都套入了無接縫式讀取進行。

令人眼花撩亂的攻擊招式以及流暢的動作表現，幾乎已成了《蜘蛛人：時間裂痕》的賣點之一，特別是簡單易懂的商店系統也是值得贊賞的設計。招式商店裡所販賣的技能分成三大類，除了Amazing、2099二位英雄的獨立招式外，還有一個共通技能Shared。透過殺敵來獲得藍色的傳送能量（Portal Energy）後，便能花費這些能量在商店裡購買招式。比較特別的地方是，能夠提升角色初始素質的增加血量上限，或凍結時間等的特殊技能，得要花費黃金蜘蛛（Golden Spiders）才能購買；而這些黃金蜘蛛必須完成挑戰賽，或者是直接搜索場景來取得，因此玩家將這些珍貴的黃金蜘蛛投資在技能上時得審慎選擇。

戰斗過程的連續攻擊技部份，這次沿用了Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions《蜘蛛人：破碎次元》的攻擊系統，透過手把X、Y鍵組合出不同的輕／重連續攻擊技，還能搭配A鍵跳躍與長按攻擊鍵將敵人打飛至空中，趁敵人尚未落地前再接上數十段的攻擊。當然，《蜘蛛人：時間裂痕》依然運用了大量的慢動作鏡頭，以及各種不同角度的鏡頭切換來強調整體的娛樂性，玩家在戰斗時所施展的一招一式都會透過流暢的游戲畫面一覽無遺。
