該書為美國大學教授黛博拉·布羅蒂格的新作,該書此前曾被評價為“西方學者首次著書正面評價中國對非援助”。黛博拉指出,中國的媒體都在宣傳中國的援非是無私的友好之舉,而西方媒體評價則恰好相反。中國的援助不同於西方的援助,其中一個重要的原因在於,中國自身也曾是一個受援對象。中國的援助更多地以低息貸款的形式出現 ,不同於西方的捐助。但中國政府一直未公布精確的對非洲援助數據。
