2006年7月14日，IBM全球同步發布了一款具有劃時代意義的數據庫產品——DB2 9（“DB2”是IBM數據庫產品系列的名稱）。而這款新品最大特點即是率先實現了可擴展標記語言（XML）和關系數據間的無縫交互，而無需考慮數據的格式、平台或位置。
