Tumblr十分看重可定制性及易用性，所以注冊/登錄頁面極為簡潔。用戶可以向他們的Tumblr添加七種類型的內容。Tumblr主要的頁面是“Dashboard”，顯示所有跟隨用戶的更新。在這個界面上用戶可以將某篇文章標注為喜歡或是轉發，這些都和Twitter很類似。Tumblr的用戶體驗因此也非常好，85%的注冊用戶都留在了Tumblr，遠高於Twitter的40%。
除了在Tumblr網頁上發布內容，Tumblr還支持通過小書簽，電子郵件，AIM聊天機器人，甚至是撥打Tumblr的電話來更新。此外Tumblr可以自動將內容同步到Facebook和Twitter。
Tumblr可以綁定域名也是它的一大亮點，使得用戶可以在自己的域名下發布文章。
