玩家在《Ancients of Ooga》裡扮演Ooga一族的先靈，藉由附身操控的方式拯救受異族壓迫的子孫;游戲結合了平台動作(跑、跳、攀爬)與大量的解謎要素，變化與解法相當多樣
首先，玩家在游戲中能以幽靈的型態四處游蕩，但幽靈無法與環境互動，玩家得附在Ooga人身上，才能引導他們脫離險境、成功過關。 Ooga人除了基本的跑跳攀爬與啟動機關等動作之外，他們還有個詭異的專長，就是什麼東西都能塞進嘴裡：玩家能塞到嘴巴裡的東西包括石頭、樹干、果實、火把(放進嘴裡會燒起來…)，甚至連其他的Ooga人都能放在嘴裡帶著走
玩家按下Y鍵就能與場景中的機關互動，像是讓Ooga人在輪子上狂奔，以打開樓梯上方的閘門。
東西進了口有兩種選擇，一個是把它吞進肚子裡(後果端視你吞了啥而定)，另一個則是把它吐出來;有些東西吃了之後有特殊效果，例如吃了輕飄飄果實就能飛上山壁，而當你需要騰出雙手空間攀爬梯子時，把手上的物品暫時放進嘴裡也是個好辦法。
游戲的畫面與音樂均采滑稽逗趣的路線。
巫醫可賦予Ooga噴火之類的特殊能力，讓玩家可以對付平時無法打倒的敵人。
然而，游戲中有許多機關不是單靠一只Ooga人就能解決的，這時玩家就要變回幽靈型態另找新的目標附身，集眾Ooga人之力破解機關：例如讓兩只Ooga 人同時踩在壓力板上打開機關，一只Ooga人負責跑輪子啟動閘門、讓另一只Ooga人通過後啟動後方的機關等等。另外，有的Ooga人可以從巫醫那兒得到頭槌、破牆或噴火等特殊能力，如何利用這些能力結合附身切換與跑跳吞吃等動作成功過關，就是《Ancients of Ooga》的魅力所在。
