本課程探討舊約（希伯來聖經）作為宗教生活的表達和古代以色列的思想，對西方文明的基礎性文件。一個廣泛的方法，包括源批評與歷史批判學校，傳統的批評，節錄批評，文學和規范方法應用於研究和聖經的解釋。特別強調的是反對它的歷史和文化背景設定在古代近東的聖經
主講人：

Christine Hayes是耶魯大學Robert F. and Patricia Ross Weis 宗教研究教授。她於1993年在加州大學伯克利分校獲得了博士學位。一個在塔木德，聖經解釋學方面的專家。Hayes 教授聖經和塔木德時期的文學和歷史背景。她是兩本學術書籍的作者：Between the Babylonian and Palestinian Talmuds，這是Salo Baron獎項第一本介紹猶太思想和文學的獲得者，於1997年獲獎；Intermarriage and Conversion from the Bible to the Talmud，2003年全國由他圖書最終獲獎圖書之一。她還撰寫過本科教材和一些雜志的文章。
